Workshop 6 – Specialty fibers good for Romanian market

29 mai 2018

On May 29, 2018  it was the first event dedicated exclusively to optical fibers for special applications in Romania. This event took place at Grand Phenicia Hotel, the northern part of the capital.

For those who do not work in this field, applications represents: „All the roles that an optical fiber plays in addition to the conventional, environmental and transmission role in modern telecommunication systems”.

The most common applications:

  • Distributed sensors for the oil and aeronautical industry
  • Optical aplifiers for telecommunications
  • High power lasers used in the military, industrial and medical fields
  • Quantum optics etc.

To understand all these applications, both fiber optics and equipment used for their processing must face a series of technical challenges to overcome which requires a close collaboration between fiber optic producers, equipment suppliers and end users.

This first edition tried to bring together world-class equipment manufactures and the target audience from our country.

AFOR, Tele-Grup and Teledatanet members provided the content of this event as follows:

  • Tele-Grup presented Fujikura solution for these challenges. A representative from Japan presented equipments that covers each stage of the research and production process
  • Teledatanet also presented the specific portofolio of applications for special optical fibers and other applications with lasers in research/development of the manufactures Furukava/3SAE and EXPO (Yenista).

Equipments that covers each stage of the research and production process was presented – welding machines for special applications, high precision cleavers, annealing, automatic fiber preparation machines, thermal stripers and ultrasonic cleaning devices, interferometry and specific microscopy and other inspection equipment, platforms and measuring equipment (spectrum analyzers, optical component characterization systems, optical modulation analyzers, etc.).

The theoretical presentation was complemented by a practical demonstration where we had the opportunity to interact with a number of key equipment within the proposed solution.

In the second part of the event it was an interactive debate in which we will seek to identify the main directions of development of this field in our country, starting from the experience accumulated in similar markets.
