Summary
How far can the fiber optic cables go inside the buildings?
– Dorin Coman said that from the experience, it is recommended at about 3 m from the entrance to the building as a general average, with the recommendation of a direct separation in a box called BEP (Buidling Entry Point) or Distributor of building on the wall. In standard EN 50174-2 the recommended distance is 2 m.
– He presented internationally used solutions for indoor fiber optic cables and the components of an indoor fiber optic network:
Fiber optic cables
Fiber optic microcables and tubes
Fiber optics or fiber optic sets
Connectivity Elements:
BEP / Building distributor
Outlet (fiber optic or hybrid)
Low dose
Technical rooms (at office buildings)
The interior cables have specific colors, of which most used in Romania are yellow (single-mode OS1 / OS2), according to the table below of the standard TIA-598 C and IEC 60304 (color code).
One operator used mechanical connectors for Last-Mile for several years, including for junction of fiber optic cables inside buildings, and has now dropped mechanical connectors (they have tried several types from multiple suppliers), because about 75% of complaints received at the service were caused by the junctions and the poor performances of the mechanical junctions
Opportunities to be tracked according to Law no. 159/2016 related to 2 new definitions: infrastructure operators and internal physical infrastructure. Who is the owner or manager of the internal physical infrastructure in buildings in Romania?
Problems encountered in practice:
One of the problems commonly encountered in practice is related to office buildings, which depend on administrators. Some do not accept the installation of cables vertically, and others will only separate cables for each individual customer.
Enveloping the buildings with the disposal of the NETCITY boxes on the building. Several operators’ infrastructures were affected.
They found in a building the existing infrastructure (cables) on Multimod.
Existence of several existing infrastructures in unused blocks (sometimes there are 3 different internal physical infrastructures) – how could they be cleaned?
There are different technologies for operators and they must be respected through appropriate pipelines
How should an fiber optic interior network be in a building?
With 2 important KPIs:
Time to Market as short as possible
Flexibility (connection time for additional clients)
There is a big difference that needs to be dealt with separately between new and old buildings
For new buildings it is recommended to put the pipes (tubes), both vertically and horizontally, in each apartment / office.
The classic, traditional solution is P2P, with a fiber optic cable from the entrance to the building to the subscriber
The modern, very current solution is with the associated piping, vertically and horizontally
The latest solutions include installing optical fibers inside buildings (Fiber Units or fiber optic sets) instead of blown fiber optic cables
It is necessary to update the I18-1 low current regulations as soon as possible
Building managers / owners should provide pipelines for multiple operators.
How could building owners / managers be required to have multi-operator access to buildings? Several possible options were discussed:
by the notices when obtaining the Building Authorization,
by the technical norms of Law no. 159/2016 (“the systematized routes”)
through a neutral institution (such as AFOR or ANCOM) that will provide the tools and levers necessary to comply with the legal provisions
to find other legislative provisions, but which will have dynamic and flexible monitoring tools for law enforcement
to educate people / clients
to oblige operators to put a box for at least 3 operators
